Jimmy Banyas

It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart that we pass along the tragic news of the sudden passing of long time WCRC member and dear friend Jimmy Banyas. Jimmy passed away today after a very sudden and brief battle with cancer. Jimmy was 53. Jimmy was an endurance athlete that loved to chew up the trails and had many, many marathons and ultra finishes in his distinguished running career. Jimmy was also the gold standard of volunteerism working tirelessly at all WCRC races, whatever the need may be. In  2013 Jimmy was unanimously awarded the WCRC Volunteer of the Year award for his unwavering devotion and commitment to the WCRC.

One of my favorite Jimmy stories was from 2012 at the Stone Cat Trail Marathon. I rolled my ankle three times in the first 13 miles, got to the aid station, Jimmy was working as a volunteer, I asked him to find me some medical tape, he did. I started to tape my ankle, he took over, took my shoe off, took control of my muddy, stinking foot and wrapped my ankle like a pro, then asked me if I wanted some M&Ms. Oh God, then there was RTB and the snoring!!! I will miss you my friend…we all will.
