Coached Training Info

Tuesday coached and casual Training Runs- 6pm Graf Skating Rink on Low St. in  Newburyport (time may be adjusted as autumn light fades) begin Sept. 11. Various running venues including rail trails and paths.

Two running Options:
  1. Coached Workouts: structured workouts under Coach McCormick. All abilities welcome. Workouts planned and adjusted for individuals. Improve speed-endurance and technique. $10 per week or $50 for 7 week session.
  2. Training runs. Enjoy a run along rail trails and side streets of Newburyport.

2018 Fall Coached Training Session Details.

Extensive research shows the value of using all energy and muscle systems to improve your running, avoid injury, and make you a better athlete. HOWEVER this type of training must be done carefully with an appropriate level of stress increase for the athlete to realize the most benefit and not to get injured in the process.

WCRC coach Mike McCormick will lead a weekly series of coached training sessions on 7 successive Tuesday evenings starting Tuesday September 11th. Participants should park and meet at the Graf Skating Rink in Newburyport where workouts will begin promptly at 6:00 pm using some local routes (rail trail and path ways) ideal for building strength, speed and endurance. Workouts adjusted for fitness levels, paces, and goals. Suggested training week schedules available to enhance these workouts. Bio-mechanics (proper running form) emphasized. Information will be posted regularly on this website. Mike is a USATF certified coach with experience coaching at all levels including 30 years of high school track and  20 years of Club level coaching. These workouts are for all abilities and adjusted for personal fitness levels, speed and goals

Athletes will be assigned to an ability group based on speed. Working together make workouts more enjoyable and productive!
