You missed the bus!!! The WCRC bus to the 2014 Boston Marathon is now full. If you would like to be placed on the waiting list for seats, email Vicki at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Winners Circle Running Club is once again organizing a bus trip to the Boston Marathon. The bus will pick up runners at the Winner’s Circle Sports Bar in Salisbury, MA at 6:15 AM on the morning of Monday, April 21. The bus will then proceed to Hopkinton where it will park until after the start, providing a pre-race base of operations for WCRC runners. As they finish, runners will converge on the room reserved by WCRC at the Lenox Hotel (right at the finish line), for showers, refreshments, and the telling of tales. Spectators can watch the start and then return to the bus for a ride to the Lenox (or as near to it as possible, given the traffic restrictions that day), in time to see the finish. The bus will leave from near the Lenox at about 6:00 PM and proceed back to the Circle in Salisbury, where runners will shuffle home as best as they can.
All runners and spectators must be WCRC members 18 years or older in order to ride the bus. Similar to last year, the club is offering a $20 discount for members who did so much to make the club a success in 2013! The cost for the trip is $55 for WCRC members who joined the club prior to 12/1/2013. For new members who join the club after 12/1/2013 the cost is $75. First priority for reservations will go to WCRC members who are registered to run the marathon, until March 16. After March 16, reservations for any remaining seats will be accepted from spectators as well as registered marathon runners, on a first-come, first-served basis. Spectators can send in an application now to get on a priority waiting list.
The terms of the bus charter require that we leave the Lenox at 6:00 PM, whether or not all runners have finished, to meet the bus which will be waiting nearby. If you can not finish the marathon by 5:00 PM (the fourth wave of the marathon starts at 11:00 AM), you will probably miss the bus and should consider other transportation options. If you can not finish the marathon by 4:30 PM, you will probably miss out on the shower at the Lenox.
IMPORTANT: The logistics described above for the bus are assuming “business as usual” for club buses and hotel access for the 2014 Boston Marathon. For obvious reasons, these details may need to change once the BAA and the city announce their new policies for access to the marathon course on race day.
Your marathon bus application with payment in full must be received by WCRC before a seat will be reserved. The bus has filled up well before race day in recent years, and interest in the bus this year has already been extremely high, so please send in your application quickly if you want a seat for 2014. All refund requests received by WCRC on or before April 1 will be honored. There will be no refunds after April 1.
